If you want to give a DD setup a whirl, I'd suggest a printable DD conversion since it's the cheapest. The Creality one is also looks pretty neat! I've seen folks be pretty happy with the Printer Mods DD plate, as well as the Speeddrive printed adapter. I've been meaning to tweak this but haven't gotten around to it. In this article I’Il do an initial unboxing. For purposes of review and testing I have received a unit from BIQU. ![]() This is a variant of their BIQU H2 direct drive extruder v2.0 of which v1.0 variant I wrote a review earlier. You would need to re-route the cables to the front in order to recover this build volume.ĭD setups do make the hotend a bit heavier, but I don't print particularly fast on my E3Pro to notice any ringing/ghosting (max of 50mm/s). BIQU wants to enter the market for high temperature printing and has release the BIQU H2 500☌ direct drive extruder. The default installation of the Micro Swiss DD reduces your Z-axis max height by quite a bit (I think around 50mm) as shown here. I’ve also read that with the added weight, I might have to slow the printing down. I get the feeling you might loose a little height but that probably depends on the design. Plus I got fed up with the stock Creality hotend cooking the end of my bowden tube resulting in annoying under extrusion issues every few months. ![]() I have the Micro Swiss DD + All-Metal Hotend combo and it's been working great! I think it's worthwhile if you have a use for the all-metal hotend (printing high temps for instance), and a DD setup compliments an all-metal hotend due to the much lower retractions (as all-metal hotends prefer less retraction speed/distance). I've had it with my bowden extruder and want to change to a DD system. From my 'research', I've narrowed it down to 2 options: The E3D Hemera or the BIQU H2.The E3D seems to be the older, more tested/proven option, while the BIQU offers to be a more lightweight and cheaper option, which would mean less speed sacrificed. This sub is for all things related to the Creality Ender 3 3D printer.
