Life as a senior member of the Syndicate, the loose coalition of shady organizations with grudges against Nanotrasen, must be a special kind of hell. Each of the major factions within the coalition (listed below) are responsible for some branch of the groups operations according to their specialties, with some contributing raw firepower and tactical prowess, others highly skilled covert agents and intelligence gathering, and still others contributing more mundane tasks like organizing supplies and armaments for the operations. However, another test was run that proved Melissa not to be the mother. Scully's brother Bill and mother Margaret were aghast that Melissa had given birth to a daughter without telling anyone. Scully began investigating further with aid from John Kresge and came to the conclusion that Emily was Melissa's daughter. She was further disturbed by unusual phone calls exhorting help for the little girl that sounded just like Melissa's voice. Scully was disturbed by an uncanny resemblance between Emily and her deceased sister Melissa. While visiting with her family in San Diego, Scully became involved with a suicide investigation that became a murder investigation centered on Marshall Sim, who apparently murdered his wife. ![]() She was adopted by Roberta and Marshall Sim and raised. Sim was born via a surrogate mother, Anna Fugazzi, in a San Diego nursing home.
